FAQS
Q: What is the difference between a Swiss movement & Japanese movement? Does the second hand sweep the same for both?
A: It is like asking what is the difference between Japanese and German cars. Arguably has many differences, but they are basically the same, they can transport our body from A to B no problem. Japanese movements generally speaking are cheaper. Swiss movements are considered more reliable movements with the added charisma being "Swiss". They also keep their price better when it comes to resell them on the second hand market. Both can be very accurate within 1-3 seconds a day. The "sweeping" is depend on the frequency of the balance wheel in the watch. 28,800 is smoother sweep than 21,600. It is marginal factor since both can be very good time keeper, although the higher frequency supposed to mean more precise time keeping but this is not the case every time. I had better timekeeper watch with Japanese Seiko NH-35A movement than a Swiss Sellita SW-200, both were Invicta. So up to you. I consider both are OK movement, I have serviced my Swiss every 5 years, on the other hand I replace my Japanese every 5 years. In my consoderation replace Japanese is cheaper than service them. Swiis are a different story because they are more expensive therefore worth to fix or service them.
Q: Is the back of the watch clear - that is can you see the movement?
A: Yes, over the last two months I have purchased three. The packaging was different, with two just wrapped around a soft pillow, and the first one had proper factory packaging, but all three watches are identical with clear backs that show the movement.
Q: What is the difference between 8926OB and 17044 ? Which is the better one ?
A: The 8926OB has straight indicese at 6 and 9 while the 17044 has round ones. The band width on the 8926 is 20mm while 18mm on the 17044. The case thickness on the 8926 is 11mm while 14mm on the 17044.17044 is a newer model (jan 2014) and the 8926OB is 2006 (with a new version in 2011). Also, the 17044 lists a "stopwatch" as a special feature.
Q: Can enough links be removed to accommodate a 6.5" (approx.) wrist?
A: Yes. I have a 6.25" wrist, and had to remove all but one link. So for a 6.5" wrist, removing all but 2 should be fine. The respondent above who said the links are graduated in size is mistaken. All the _removable_ links are the same size.
